Evening Peeps. Jim, a magnificant site and your dedication to the kebablog is quite something
After a spell of not eating kebabs for years since university I've started in the last couple of years and now try to tuck in 1 a week as part of a healthy diet...
I'm based near Basildon so have been working my way through the locals.
For years I've driven past the 'cosmos catering' mobile unit that parks about 400m from the house and I've never bothered to try it as I could have sworn someone told me it was ropey. Anyway, a like minded individual at work looked horrified when I mentioned this and proclaimed that it does the finest kebabs in the area.
So Sunday dinner was a mixer regular (chicken and doner) which only comes in £6 supersize. Splendid 'bab...I shall be returning
I've also been lucky enough this year to be working quite a few weeks over in Turkey. Some of my work colleagues have questioned my sanity when I've waived the option of dinner, strolled out of the 5 Star Hilton in Istanbul and taken the short walk to Taksim sqaure where you encounter 'kebab alley'..a parade of some 10 marvellous establishments. Of the 10+ 'babs I've sampled in Turkey they are generally excellent but quality and strength of chilli sauce has been a bit dissapointing.
I've got some good pictures of kebabs as I usually send them to mate for him to appraise...
regards

Welcome Ben, any Essex reviews much appreciated. If you have photos of the establishments so much the better.
Happy kebab eating! |

Good thinking, I have photos of kebabs but not of establishments. This can be solved relatively easily. It's too tempting, the missus is away for 4 days on business so now I have tidied the kitchen and done the washing up it will be staying like that i.e takeaways and minimal washing up.
I can't go back to cosmos though 2 nights in a row from first ever visit. I can't let them think they have won me over so easily..still there is always 'up the road' and 'ecs entertainment' who I put in the more luxirous end of kebab retailing i.e ECS offers a lamb fillet kebab which is lovely but does actually defeat the point of a good greasy basic kebab.
Anyways, just to make you jealous I think I posses the finest T-shirt that a member of this site could have. No idea where the missus found it but she came home and presented me with a t-shirt that she knew, 'I would absolutely love'. She weren't wrong actually...
Even better is I was wearing this whilst I was out in Turkey and a colleague pointed out that the Turkish for 'I' is 'Ben'. So it translates into Turkish directly as 'Ben love Kebaps' . Awesome...
regards
Ben

My missus found it in Debenhams or something like this. The label on it is 'tongueandgroove' so I'm having a look on the internet to see if there is anything about them. I'd like another one as this'll get worn out one day
We are moving in a couple of days time so what does that mean? Most of the stuff is boxed up. Soooo....we don't want to be knocking up three course meals
Cosmos did itself proud with a fantastic super sized chicken and lamb doner. I'm groaning here...lol

As I have now officially moved it's time to appraise the kebabs of Corringham/Stanford-Le-Hope. I tried a cheeky 'on the way home' one from the 'Orient' in Standford-Le-Hope center. Oooh dear. It was the sort of kebab that non-experts would use as an example of why kebabs are rubbish. Everything about the presentation and quality was pretty poor.
So, tonight, I am trying out a bit of Artemis in Corringham. Can't comment on the venue as too busy to be heading out. Anything over £7 and they deliver so thats a super large special mix and portion of chips.
Apparently this place is best of the area although it's got to be good to beat the 'Cosmos' vans of Laindon (3 of them now..)
So, finish watching Die Hard 4.0 in 1080P blueray (new toy), wait for the 'bab, glass of red wine, maybe a big spliff and then Top Gear. 'Appy days )) |

Ben
No luck with finding anything relating to tongueandgroove clothing on the net. Have you had any joy with your search?
Getting desperate ere...
cheers
